One Prayer – Week 3

Sunday we continued on with the series entitled “One Prayer”. If you could pray one prayer for the church globally, what would you pray?

This week we played a video message by Scott Longyear, pastor at Maryland Community Church, in Terra Haute, IN. He took his message out of Romans 6. The title of the message was “God, make us dead!” The idea behind the message was, if we’ve given our life to Christ, we no longer have to live with the old self, the old flesh, that part of our life is dead, and we’re to walk as new creatures, because the Spirit of God is living in us. Our old self is buried with Christ, and our new self is resurrected in Christ.

If you saw the video, I’m curious what you thought of it? I’ve gotten mixed feedback. Some really liked it, some thought it was spooky, some just didn’t get it. Also, what do you think of 3 weeks of video for Sunday A.M.?

One prayer for the church? To be the hope we were meant to be? To be the true Bride of Christ? To surrender all? Tough question. Simply put, I would pray (and do) that the church can start a modern day revolution by throwing off the chains of man-made church laws and rules, and commit to being true followers of Christ. Yes, that is an all too used statement. Yet, I see so many that are content to go through the motions. We are called to completely surrender to the Will of God and follow Christ with reckless abandon. I find personal depression in churches (not Epic) that are content to exist in their own 4 walls (or in some cases hundreds of walls). We can only be the true Bride of Christ if we are willing to completely die to self, and as a loving community reach out and recklessly love those around us. In today’s age, there are so many committing acts of lip service, and therefore the lost and hurting expect the genuine article. We need to throw off the chains of self-satisfaction (as a church and as individuals) and realize that what we do to provide self-indulgence means nothing, but what we do to help and love those in our community means everything.

Well stated! If I understand correctly, you are calling for a church thats actions speak so loud, that no-one can hear what they’re saying, but there actions speak so loud that the world sees love in action, and is compelled to come to Christ? I love it! Sign me up! Lead the way!
